Attention shoppers: 40 million Target customers’ data stolen

Thursday morning Target confirmed that it was looking into a security breach where 40 million of its customers’ credit and debit card data had been stolen.

Target said that the theft actually took place back in November, the day before Thanksgiving. The retail giant also stated that online customers were not affected, but instead, the breach occurred with in-store customers who had their credit cards or debit cards swiped at the counter in variou stores nation wide.

The company has established a hotline for customers who believe they may have been affected. A spokesperson said there are hundreds of people at the hotline who can help answer questions.
