Reuters reports that 48 were recently killed in a Kenyan village by machete-wielding raiders. In an attempt to keep villagers from escaping the raiders torched homes and other structures. Authorities were quoted by Reuters as saying that “31 women, 11 children and six men” were murdered by the raiders.
The report indicates that there has been an ongoing struggle between the Pokomo and Orma groups over land and water. The same report stated that the Kenyan Red Cross said there were 59 bodies with more than 40 being taken to a hospital outside the area.
Another attack occurred in north eastern Kenya where it has been reported that at least 5 people have died.
