Heavy rains kill 9 in Manila

Heavy rains have submerged more than half of the Philippine capital Manila, causing a landslide resulting in the death of nine people Tuesday.

Residents have been forced to seek shelter in evacuation centers set up by the government.  More than 20,000 residents may be affected by the torrential downpours and flooding.

A tropical storm off eastern China has been forecast to last until Thursday.

Tuesday’s flood is reported to be the worst since 2009 when hundreds were killed.
