AFP reports that “angry Muslims” attacked a Christian church and various Christian owned homes outside of Cairo Wednesday, causing a clash that wounded at least 16 people. AFP says the clash began “after a Muslim died of wounds from a fight with a Christian.”
Even after authorities used tear gas to keep the angry mob from torching the church, the mob returned so they could burn several homes in Dahshur. Three police cars were also reported to have been burned.
The report also said that on “Friday, Muslims set fire to several homes and traded fire bombs with villagers, leaving at least one person wounded. Muslims have in the past burned the homes of Copts during sectarian clashes, with dozens of Christians killed in the past 18 months.”
More than 20 Christians were killed early last year by a Muslim suicide bomber outside a church in Alexandria.
